Once, a previous boss of mine described me as a devil’s advocate. She meant it as one of those compliments that was also meant to calm me down as I was up in arms about something at the time that I thought would be bad. I can’t remember if I ended up right or wrong, but the phrase emboldened me in just about everything I do. I like to see different sides of issues and try to see things from different angles.
A devil’s advocate is someone who argues the other side of an argument, often just for the sake of debate. In this way one can see other angles and ideas that you may not have thought of.
This devil’s advocate is a rather liberal but not narrow minded socially minded person. He lives near Philadelphia, PA, working as a supervisor of a software support group handling high profile accounts, and is an ardent Philadelphia sports fan.
